Rock and Roll

Rock and roll. The music that changed the world. From the dulcet tones of Janis Joplin and subdued melodies of Jimi Hendrix to the straight riffs of Peter Green and the simple, childish lyrics of Stevie Nicks, classic rock and roll is a subtle, yet ever-present force in the musical world. I mean, who can deny the musical influences? Can anyone truly deny hearing a touch of Dylan in Tom Petty's vocal ministrations? Does anyone truly believe that ZZ Top's 3 chords were not first used in the 60s?

Before we continue, a note to the players of trivia: We, the writer [sic] of this bonus, would like to plug our own particular agendum. In the 'Rock and Roll' bonus, you will not find the following: Ani DiFranco, the Indigo Girls, Prince, Erasure, or many other recent bands. We're sticking to real music here. None of this Dave Matthews whiny crap. No Mariah Carey (get a good songwriter. You can afford one!), no Lisa Loeb (I ain't gonna touch that one, as I am a self-respecting American man), and finally, no song-like noises by that new band, Goo Goo Matchbox Semi-Hard 20 Sonic Ball-Dolls.

This is rock and roll. Pure and simple. Don't mess with me. I'll kill you.

Dead rock stars:

Alright, so death is fairly all-inclusive. But since rock stars have a habit of dying in interesting (and well-covered) ways (bonus points for anyone who can tell me how Keith Richards died), we've devoted a serious section of the bonus to it.

I. First, random rock star death trivia:

II. The Butler, with a G-string, in the green room.

Match the following rock stars with their causes of death:

III. The Night They Ran Old Dixie Down

Vehicular deaths:

IV. I like pleasure spiked with pain, and music is my aeroplane.

Given the song, and the transportation-related cause of death, name the artist.

V. Drugs, Drugs, and Rock and Roll. More drugs. And drugs.

(They had it coming.)

The following artists were all killed by drugs or alcohol, often both.

VI. Boring rock stars (they died semi-normally.)

These folks died of (slightly more) natural causes.

VII. 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 Rock Facts, Rock Facts, ROCK FACTS!

Name the rock entities associated with the following quotations:

VIII. And you thought you could AltaVista all of this bonus.

Rock lyrics: Name the song and the original artist. Note: questions whose numbers are in boldface contain pieces of 2 songs, so for full credit, name both song/artist pairs. Note also that the 2-song lyrics may be extremely jumbled. Half-credit, of course, will be given for getting one but not both answers.
