Realm: Sports
Question: What professional sports team has gone the longest without winning a championship of any sort?
Answer: The NY Rangers.
Song: Nature's Way-- Spirit

(NOTE: The Rangers' woes were legendary, extending from 1941 through 1981, the year of this contest. It would not be until Oh No, Bette Midler! that the Rangers would finally win the Stanley Cup again. However, this answer could be incorrect-- depending on your interpretation of it. As of 1981, three baseball teams had not won the final title for a longer stretch, their last championships predating the Rangers' 1940 Cup (or 1942 league title) by more than two decades. These teams were the Red Sox (1919-present), White Sox (1918-present), and Cubs (1909-present). Indeed, unlike the Rangers, all three have yet to win the championship SINCE the 1981 Phasers contest, also. However, the New York skein was more wretched than those of the three baseball squads. The Rangers played for decades in a 6-team league, yet managed to miss the 4-team playoffs eighteen out of 24 years. What the question above is getting at is that the Rangers failed to finish first in their league or division from 1943-1981, inclusive. In this sense, the question is correct since the Cubs and both Sox all captured AL or NL championships during this time, only to lose the World Series. But similarly, the Rangers did advance to Stanley Cup finals in 1950, 1972, and 1979. In the latter two cases, the Stanley Cup matched the playoff survivor of one conference against another, each generally being considered a lesser "title." Without winning their division, the Rangers had been Campbell Conference champions as recently as two years before the Phasers contest. Regardless of semantics, though, no one can argue with the premise that being a Rangers fan really, really sucked.)
