TRAGIC NOTE: Jack is Da Bomb presciently guessed "Sharks" after just the first set of clues, but didn't click with the West Side Story angle until six hours later.
Looking at the above totals demonstrates how widely competitive Polar Vortex's contest turned out to be. EIGHTEEN different teams claimed the top score on some individual element of the contest, of which there are also eighteen!
Leading the way was The Knights Who Say, who got the top score in four of them (Colors, Audio, Whedon, Ultra). They were followed by AmB+erst with three (also Colors and the Ultra, plus Balls), and Murder She Scrote with three Actions.
Freaky & the Fridays, Geezers on Stun, Trapped on the Fourth Floor, and Nachis had two apiece. Trust Me, I'm a Stomach and Charlie Brown were a co-team and would otherwise have been credited with 2 under a single name.
Beyond those eighteen teams, six other teams put up second-place scores in one or more categories.
The breadth of the score distribution is unprecedented.
This contest had 24 teams with 1st- or 2nd-place scores in one thing or another. 29 teams scored 100+ points. Each of those are the most of the 21st century, and both by wide margins. More than likely, they're both the most in Williams Trivia history.
One last note. Although the "create false suspense" onscreen erasing of the scores has its uses, in this case it cost us some heavy-duty drama. Freaky and the Fridays' seemingly comfortable 17-point win can be attributed entirely to their performance in the 8th Hour Bonus (an 11-4 lead over the runners-up, Ice Cream Buffet), plus Freaky's 22-9 margin over Ice Cream in the 2nd Super. That's a 20-point swing to close out the contest, and would have been something to see in real time.
