Action Trivia were worth 1 point apiece, though teams were promised a whopping 2 for "extra effort," which usually meant props and costuming. During this period of the contest, Action Trivia were usually a specific physical action that needed to be performed correctly, rather than being interpreted creatively.
More than one team during this time made comments about "bringing Action Trivia back." From these remarks we may infer that Actions were not yet an automatic component of Williams Trivia by 1984, although they quickly became so afterwards.
The early to mid-1980s were a period of format tinkering in general, with ideas such as 25-point Super Boni, partial credit for Hour Boni, the winner's trophies, and the Ultra Bonus being added to Trivia's booty. Actions were no exception. The mid-80s marked the first time they would be scheduled on the half-hour, while values crept up from 1 to 2 to 3 to 5 points apiece. 1997 would add a sixth point.
Anyway, here are Rule Six's Action topics.
Action #1 accompanied the TV Annuals Hour Bonus.
"You are the world's most famous prospector, Yukon Cornelius. Come down and demonstrate your technique."
(*You would throw your pickaxe or other equipment into the air over your head.)
Action #2 accompanied the Sports Hour Bonus.
"Show us what Tug McGraw does when he leaves the mound at the end of an inning. And tell us how it started."
(*You would slap your thigh with your glove, as a signal to your wife.)
Action #3 accompanied the Comics Hour Bonus.
"Show us how Wonder Woman changes her costume. From the DC comic book, not the TV show."
(*You would spin a lasso around your body, from head to toe, and your costume would magically appear as the rope passed over you.)
Action Trivia #4 accompanied the Comedy Audio Bonus.
"Come down and re-enact the Ladies Auxiliary Society's reenactment of World War 2."
(*You would give a pleasant, softspoken introduction to your vignette. Then you and the other ladies would throw each other violently onto the floor, wrestling and screaming and kicking. In mud if possible.)
Action #5 accompanied the Williamsiana Hour Bonus.
"We want you to come down, and from memory, sing the first verse and chorus of our alma mater."
(*You would robustly sing "the mountains, the mountains, the mountains, the mountains, the mountains," for several days, until someone turned a fire extinguisher on you.)
Action Trivia #6 accompanied the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Hour Bonus.
"Imagine that you are a Freeman from the planet Arakis, trapped in the center of the Great Earth. Show us how you would attempt to cross the Great Earth without attracting the dread Sand Worms."
No Action Trivia accompanied the Challenge Hour Bonus.
Action(s) #7 accompanied the James Bond Hour Bonus; there were three of them.
