*AI YoungBoy*

YoungBoy Never Broke Again

I don’t understand this trend of really difficult-to-say rapper names but
YoungBoy Never Broke Again (formerly NBA YoungBoy) quietly dropped one of
the best mixtapes of the year in AI YoungBoy. 17-year-old out of Baton
Rouge who sounds like if Kevin Gates and Young Thug had a beautiful,
shit-talking child. Key tracks: “No Smoke,” “Dark Into Light,”
“Untouchable.”

*The Heart of Infinite Change*

Natasha Agrama

Los Angeles is running jazz right now, and vocalist Natasha Agrama is at
the forefront of this new wave. The Heart of Infinite Change is her latest
offering, and it’s stunning. It’s loaded with starpower, with guests from
George Duke to Thundercat, and contains piano prodigy Austin Peralta’s last
recordings before his passing at the age of 22. Key tracks: “Goodbye
Porkpie Hat,” “In A Sentimental Mood,” “The Ballad of the Sad Young Men.”

*Science Fiction*

Brand New

The emo revival has begun, whether you like it or not. Brand New has always
approached emo with an emotional and thematic nuance unlike their
contemporaries, and it’s in full force on their latest album Science
Fiction. Incredible songwriting and guitarwork. Key tracks: “Can’t Get It
Out,” “137,” “Batter Up.”

*SHOW OF THE WEEK*

*DEADBEAT SUMMER ~ with DJ Chrissy J and DJ Smiling Buddha*

*SATURDAYS @ 2-4 PM*

*GENRE: Indie, Hip-Hop, Electronic*

*Chris Jimenez & Ashwin Dasgupta*

Really eclectic set from Ashwin and Chris. Their music truly embodies the
spectrum of the deadbeat summer. On one end, you have the primal –
aggressively stuffing your face with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos while watching
Girls in bed – and on the other, the pure – lazy vegetating on the roof of
your favorite Williams building. They spun MF DOOM (“Gas Drawls”), My
Bloody Valentine (“Cigarette in Your Bed”), and BROCKHAMPTON (“SUNNY”).
