Williams Cricket Club
This group of fine young men (and women) are known for their awesome punctuality and regular attendance for cricket practices. They practice every Wednesday and Friday from 4-6 pm at the Towne Field House. The team is captained by Lawrence T. Madziwa '07, vice captained by Syed W. J. Iftikhar '08 and the cricket club is run by Ananda V. Burra '07.

The Williams Cricket Team played Middlebury College and defeated them by an incredible margin. (8 wickets with 8 overs to spare)

Microsoft Windows allows users to define network "shares" which Williams student use to make their pictures, documents, music, and movies public. Back in the old days of 2002, WSO set up a service called Phynd. This was a tool that efficiently indexed and searched a Windows network using only Windows networking protocols. It lasted about three months before the recording industry sued another college campus and WSO took it down as an act of self-preservation.

Luckily, as mentioned above, Phynd used only default Windows networking protocols. The upshot is that you can still search the Williams network for media. Here's how:

#Open My Computer
#Click the Search button on the toolbar
#When the annoying little dude pops up, click the link labelled Pictures, music, or video
#Click Use advanced search options
#Specify what type of media you want to search for
##Check one or more boxes to stipulate picture, music, or video files
##Enter all part of the file name if desired--leave this box blank to search for all media
#Click on the drop-down box labelled Look in: and select Browse
##Select My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network
#Click Search!

Note that this search is highly inefficient and will take a long time. You might want to start it up before class on Friday so that your computer generates a list of music/movies for the weekend that will be ready when you return. A good tip is to remember the name of the computer where you find a lot of stuff. You can access computers on the network by name by opening My Computer and typing \\computername in the Address Bar. It's also possible to connect to a PC from a Mac.

Winter Study is the span of weeks between the two semesters at Williams. The courses offered during winter study may seem silly and frivolous in comparison to the academic rigors of semesterly courses, but nothing could be further from the truth. Many people find that the freedom from the usual constraints allows them to study whatever strikes their fancy, with no concerns about getting credit towards a major or dropping GPA. Winter Study also frequently features courses that include trips abroad, which are highly popular.

Winter Study for the 2005-2006 school year begins on Tuesday, January 3rd and ends on Thursday, January 26th. (Spring classes don't start until the following Wednesday, February 2nd.)

The "Odd Quad" is the more commonly used name for the Berkshire Quad, the easternmost group of buildings on campus. It is made up of two freshman dorms, East College and Fayerweather Hall, and three upperclassman dorms, Currier Hall, Fitch House, and Prospect House, as well as the Hopkins Observatory. East and Fay are on the west side of the quad; Currier and Fitch on the east; Prospect is on the south end and The observatory is on the north end, next to Route 2.

How the Odd Quad got its name is a mystery shrouded by time. For example, in the 1970s it was known as the Sophomore Quad, rather than the Odd Quad. Some say it was simply due to having five dormitories (i.e. an odd number); others suspect it has more to do with the nature of the inhabitants, as the Odd Quad tends to be home to the campus's largest collection of freaks, geeks, nerds, and people who generally consider themselves to be a little...well, odd. If you brought a cape to college "just in case," you're likely to fit in well there. (If you think capes are for losers...you're still reasonably likely to fit in well there. The cape-wearers are still a minority, but a slightly more visible one than elsewhere on campus.)

Odd Quadders tend to eat their meals in Driscoll Dining Hall, the most convenient dining hall, located just off the southeast corner of the quad, next to Fitch and Prospect. Driscoll was known a few years ago for the Driscoll Deviations, a popular series of pranks pulled during dinners by a large group of students.

Some of the best features of the Odd Quad are the Currier ballroom, which features arguably the best (if the most beer-soaked) piano on campus outside of the music building, the roof of the observatory, which has a truly lovely view, and the perfect-for-snowball-fights Eyes sculpture located on the western side of East, in front of the Williams College Museum of Art.
137.165.209.145https://wso.williams.edu/wiki/index.php?title=Fayerweather_Hall&diff=2196Fayerweather Hall2005-10-13T19:50:27Z
137.165.209.145:
