Symphonic Winds is a faculty-directed group with traditional band instruments at its core. It has grown to encompass strings, voices, electronic and acoustic keyboards, guitars, and percussion. Steven Bodner used to direct it. Its repetoire encompasses mainly 20th century music, with the typical program containing pieces by students and by Dutch composer Louis Andriessen. The ensemble varies in size as the personnel rotates from piece to piece, varying from a chamber-sized group to a mass of sound covering the entire stage of Chapin Hall.
