It's Contradance enthusiasts are often asked, "What is contradance?" The question draws a [http://www.sbcds.org/contradance/whatis/ gammut of answers], and even after years of dancing it remains hard to do justice respond well to contradance in words. It's an American folk not a square dance born during , though many of the colonial era from figures are the more formal courtship dances best known today from Jane Austen moviessame as in square. Like LatinIt's not a line dance, these old English Country Dances persistthough a ''set'' consists of two lines. It ''is'' an intricate, are pleasantmoving knot of dancers, but they are in which you and a dead languagepartner progress down the dance hall and back again, dancing a series of ''figures'' with an emphasis each couple you encounter on doing traditional dances in an oldthe way.
