The Berkshire Food Project, started by Williams students in the 80s1980s, continues to serve food fight local hunger by preparing and offering free lunches on weekdays. Rather than being an impersonal handout, the Project aspires to low income local residentsbe a community forum where people of widely different ages and circumstances can meet one another in an atmosphere of friendliness and mutual respect. Volunteers serve Unlike typical soup kitchens, clients are seated and served restaurant-style, and once the meal has been placed down, volunteers sit down to share lunch, eat and talk conversation with the clients, .  BFP is located at the First Congregational Church in North Adams. Volunteers begin cooking at 9:00am and clean up afterwardsserve lunch at 12:00pm. Group Williams students currently go to North Adams from the Chaplain's Office every during:Monday, Thjursday, and 11:30am-1:00pmTuesday 11:30am-1:00pmWednesday 11:30am-1:00pmThursday 9:30am-11:amFriday at 11:30 and return by 30am-1:00. 00pm Volunteers are welcome on any and all of these days, but should contact in advance.
