root is traditionally the super-user or administrator account name in Unix, GNU/Linux, and other similar operating systems. It is also the status accorded to the administrators of Williams Students Online. WSO has 2-7 roots at a time, and the position is given to members of WSO who have contributed substantially to WSO and who have demonstrated technical expertise, good judgment, and organizational loyalty. They are semi-annually or annually chosen by current roots. It is a position that lasts as long as that student is enrolled at the College. Current roots are:
