Science Quad

A view from the science quad, looking (mostly) east

The Science Quad is a nice grassy area framed by , clockwise from the top: West, Morgan, Jesup, the Physics-Schow-Chemistry-Biology building complex, Bronfman, and Clark. Near the center of the quad is a large and distinctive tree. Sometimes people play frisbee on the quad, or even study, especially residents of West and Morgan.

The Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geosciences and Psychology departments have their headquarters in the science quad. Most classes, labs, and professors' offices for these departments are held or housed in the science quad. Occasionally the science quad classrooms will be used for another discipline; this often occurs with Wege Auditorium, as it is a good place to hold large classes.

At 8:55, 9:55, and 10:55 am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the science quad is a busy place as students come and go to 50-minute math and science classes. It is especially busy at 10:55 as students rush to the Eco-Cafe before their breakfast points run out at 11.

Uses

  • Many classrooms have projectors with VCRs and DVD players. You can watch movies on a relatively big screen with surround sound on good speakers on a weekend night in many classrooms in Bronfman and Chemistry, at least.
  • The final round of that killing game is traditionally played in Bronfman all night until only one survivor remains.
  • The hill down from West is not very good for sledding, but you can try.
  • Ivy Exercises (Class Day) and Commencement are held on a temporary stage on the eastern end of the science quad.
