The Dom Grillo Hour Bonus

You asked for it, you got it. And even if you didn't ask for it, you got it anyway. A whole hour bonus based on me, Dom Grillo. Let's dive right in!

  1. Please give Dom Grillo's full name, including confirmation name.

  2. Dom is a member of what Class at Williams?

  3. Please list the schools Dom has graduated from, from high school onward.

  4. Dom has participated in 18 Trivia Contests in a row. He missed one due to a final and had to call in long distance. What final was it?

  5. Please give any 3 of Dom's 4 "internet accounts".

  6. Dom has his own IP Number. Please tell us what it is.

  7. What article of clothing is most associated with Dom?

  8. Dom finally broke down and got a job. What is his title?

Peanuts

A Classic. Need I say more? I hope not.

  1. Charlie Brown was in New York City for a spelling bee. He had a chance to win it all but, true to form, he pulled a blockheaded move. What word was he supposed to spell, and what did he spell instead?

  2. Marcie and Peppermint Patty are almost inseparable. How did they first meet?

  3. Schroeder plays the piano. What does Charlie Brown play? What about Snoopy?

  4. Snoopy's favorite food is Pizza. What is his favorite drink, and where does he go on Veteran's Day to chow and quaff?

  5. What is 5's last name?

  6. To end, go to the beginning. Who were the original 4 characters in the strip?

Babylon 5

A new show, eagerly awaited by the science fiction public. Let's see how much you know about it. After all, there have only been about 12 episodes plus the movie shown, so you should have no problem with these. Well, most of them anyhow.

  1. Babylon 5 is part of the PTEN. What is PTEN?

  2. What year does the series take place in? What other science fiction work coincidentally takes place in the same year?

  3. What is Security Chief Garibaldi's second favorite thing in the world? Please be specific if you can.

  4. In the episode "Parliament of Dreams," Commander Sinclair has to show the alien ambassadors something that would showcase "Earth's dominant belief system". In fact, he introduces them to members of about 16 different religions. Please name any 5 (religions, not the people).

  5. What former "Lost In Space" actor is a semi-regular on Babylon 5"?
And on that note ...

Lost in Space

  1. Though Dr. Smith quickly turned into a bumbling fool who should have been shoved out an airlock in almost every episode, the beginning of the first season showed a much more sinister, intelligent, and crafty character. Please tell us who or what organization Dr. Smith was working for. (Don't say the United States. I'm not that generous. At least in this question.)

  2. What was the rank of Dr. Smith? Of Don West?

  3. Perhaps the silliest alien ever met was a walking carrot. What was the carrot's name?

  4. Even Dr. Smith could get this one -- what was the name of the Robinsons' spacecraft?

  5. On what date did the Robinsons (and Dr. Smith) take off from Earth?

White Castle

  1. You must be getting hungry now. And White Castle hamburgers would really hit the spot. But do you know how much each hamburger cost when White Castle first opened?

  2. What was the first fast food chain to run a newspaper coupon?

  3. Where (city) and when (year - it was June) did that coupon run? What was the deal the coupon offered?

  4. How many holes are in a White Castle burger?

  5. White Castle also has the longest running fast-food slogan. (i.e. "You deserve a break today," "I love this place"... ) It started way back in 1921. What is this still used slogan?

  6. Lastly, what do White Castle regulars nickname the burger?

Music and Musicals

Though my knowledge of music is limited, there are some interesting tidbits to be found here.

  1. "West Side Story" is one of my favorite musicals. What play is it considered to be based on?

  2. It is really neat to be graduating and while marching, hear the band play the Monty Python theme. That's probably because the tune is a march in reality. Please give me the name of the tune and its composer.

  3. The theme to "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" was around long before the master used it in his TV show. Again, please give the name and composer.

  4. Please give my the composer and title for the music known as the theme from "The Lone Ranger" and the theme from "Masterpiece Theatre."

  5. I was going to make you sing this, but then it is late at night and why make you suffer even more? So please write down the words to the theme from "Tiny Toon Adventures."

Librarians

You may not know this, but I have an MLS degree. And so these questions on Librarians (and library assistants).

  1. What do the letters MLS stand for?

  2. Please tell me where these fictional librarian-type people are from. (What book, TV show.... I don't want to know where they are born.)

    1. Marian the Librarian--

    2. Eva Grubb--

    3. Barbara Gordon--

    4. Mr. Atoz (Get it? "A-to-Z"? Haha!)--

    5. Mrs McGreevy--

    6. Elie Patterson--

  3. Now can you identify these real life Librarian-types?

    1. These brothers (first names needed as well as last) started their careers in a law library setting but are more famous for their collections of tales.

    2. This famous singer, while in high school, worked in his high school library in Memphis, TN as an assistant. The school was L.C. Humes H.S. Who is this singer, who is also an A.L.A. poster person?

    3. For you budding lawyers out there (graduating in '94 myself!) this person worked in a law library while a student. Oh, you may know him because he "invented" the case study method used in almost every law school to study law.

    4. Two famous people, at least, have come out of the Peking University Library system. On was the University Librarian himself, who later went on to become one of the founders of the Chinese Communist Party. The other was an assistant in the Periodicals and Newspaper Room. But this second person wound up becoming much more famous than his one time boss. Who are these people?

Schoolhouse Rock

Dom managed to get through 4 years of Williams without taking any English classes. But that's because he used to watch School House Rock (SHR). Did you?

  1. According to SHR, what is a noun?

  2. According to SHR, what was a pronoun made to do? According to Hobbes, what is a pronoun? (That's the tiger, not the person.)

  3. The Lolly's told us what an adverb is; what is it?

  4. Sometimes SHR wasn't totally accurate. For example, the Preamble to the Constitution that we learned to sing is not totally accurate. What is wrong with it?

  5. But let us not forget math. We must be careful, because apparently kids today are getting dumber. The tapes of SHR that are sold today only have the tables from 2-9 plus "My Hero, Zero". But there was also two songs about 11 and 12. What were they?

New York and Chicago

  1. Let's talk about Chicago and other cities besides NYC first. New York City has its share of sister cities, such as Tokyo, Peking, Madrid, and Cairo, to name a few. Chicago has, well, no one is really sure how many sister cities Chicago has. But this is Trivia, and we will not be swayed from our path. Please give me the name of 4 of Chicago's Sister Cities/Friendship Cities. And can you tell me which one was first?

  2. The world's first Ferris Wheel was constructed by George W. Ferris in Chicago. What event coincided with its introduction?

Though I am a New Yorker, I am currently in Chicago. So I figured I would end this Hour Bonus with 3 questions which, in some small way, connect the two cities.

  1. It has been said this is the 25th Anniversary of the Miracle Mets. Down the line in the 1969 season, the Mets and Cubs were battling for first place. Then the Cubs came to Shea for a series and received an unmistakable omen of bad luck. It was what?

  2. Chicago is called the Second City. That name came about in the 1950's. Who gave Chicago that name? What magazine did the writer write for?

  3. Chicago is also called the Windy City. But it is not because of the weather. No, I don't want to know what place in the US is the windiest. I do want to know who gave Chicago that name. And what paper did the writer write for? (Hint - year was 1890.)
