As befits a 33-point margin of victory, the 5/94 contest was a fairly systematic cakewalk for How DARE They Challenge Us With Their Primitive Skills? First in Hour Bonus points, first in Super Bonus points, first in on-air points, but probably not first in the hearts of their countrymen, each score update announced an incremental increased for the Mike Tyson-named team's lead. The same squad had won the contest two years earlier as "Phasers on Stun: The Next Generation," in similarly non-dramatic fashion.

No, for the REAL action, you must look at the fitful nightlong battle for second place. Ranked as low as tied for 6th very early on, Sinusoidal Tupperware with Gumption were quickly in 3rd place behind There'll Be No Blaming Mother, 40-37. Fifteen questions later, it was Tupperware taking 2nd by three points over Mother, 82-79. By 4 AM, Tupperware had boosted its lead to 4 points over 3rd-place Mother, but with the 4th Hour Bonus unscored, neither team knew that Mother had just wiped out all four points. And so, in the first half of the contest, both teams had played at exactly the same pace. Mother held a 5-point advantage in Boni; Tupperware (best team of the night, with two of the three "5" scores awarded) outdid Mother by the same 5 points on Actions. Both teams would notch a 10 on the first Super.

Mother took an swift early lead with the 5th Hour Bonus (6-3), and with about two hours to go, had bumped its lead up to 158-152. The six-point margin was about the largest of the night. (For comparison's sake, Primitive Skills was up to 180.)

Tupperware rallied, though. They got the top score on both the sixth and seventh Action Trivia, and outscored Mother by 2 points on the 6 AM Silver Screen Hour Bonus. Even so, it took a 4-point bulge in the second Super Bonus, 11-7, to elevate Tupperware into a hard-earned tie with No Blaming Mother.

Tupperware was competing in its second contest and thrilled with the result; they would finish second again the following semester to the Bette Midler team itself (as "Can't... Do... Plaid") before enjoying a huge 45-point win in its upper-sophomore semester as Elvis Needs Boats. The Tupperwareans have won twice more to date.

There'll Be No Blaming Mother Tonight! had quite a credible showing, especially considering their single-digit players status. Oddly, a combination of talent from Mother, Primitive Skills, and the host Bette Midlers would unite as the champion "We Make Holes in Teeth!" two years later.

This contest represented the high water mark for Manhattan Skyliners, who finished in fourth place. The Skyliners were in their twenty-second YEAR of competition; late bloomers indeed. They managed it with a combination of typically excellent phone work, plus very ATYPICAL (for Skyliners) participation in the Hour Boni and Action Trivia. With the tight, tight cluster of teams beneath them, the additional points Skyliners normally doesn't bother trying for probably vaulted them two or three slots.

Unusually, two teams out of the Top Three had the highest scores on the two Super Boni-- Skyliners, and My BOOMstick. No Blaming Mother was able to claim top score on 4 of the 8 Hour Boni. I Can Live Forever in Formaldehyde had the distinction of being an all-female team. The score of "Barney the Hungry Purple Dinosaur" is highly questionable; despite handing in no bonuses and appearing in no Actions, they were credited with 111 points through Question #45. You do the math.)
