Answers to Hour Bonus 3 - Sporcle

Hour bonus 3 was administered by the online quiz-hosting site sporcle.com. There were 6 parts, and for each teams had to provide a list of responses that met some criteria.

Comics

Name the superheroes who have served in the Justice League (no repeats, and selected omissions).

Original (1960s-Early 1980s) Detroit (Mid-1980s) JLI (Late1980s-Early 1990s) Grant Morrsion JLA (Late 1990s-Early 2000s) Post-Infinite Crisis (2000s)
Martian Manhunter Elongated Man Blue Beetle Plastic Man Geoforce
Superman Zatanna Zatara Mr. Miracle Zauriel Red Arrow
Batman I (Bruce Wayne) Vixen Green Lantern III (Guy Gardner) Aztek Hawkgirl
Wonder Woman Gypsy Captain Marvel Tomorrow Woman Batman II (Dick Grayson)
Aquaman Vibe Dr. Light Hourman Supergirl
Flash II (Barry Allen) Steel (Hank Heywood) Booster Gold Steel (John Irons) Starman
Green Lantern II (Hal Jordan)   Fire Flash III (Wally West) Congorilla
Green Arrow I (Oliver Queen)   Ice Green Lantern IV (John Stewart) Donna Troy

Red Tornado   Rocket Red 7 Obsidian
Firestorm I   Maxima Nuklon
Phantom Stranger   Bloodwynd Green Arrow II (Connor Hawke)
    Tasmanian Devil
    Ray
    Huntress
    Lightray
    Orion

Comics, surprisingly, was taken by the most people, and several teams did exceedingly well (55+ out of 66). (This was a relatively Googleable quiz, though, so that might have helped some teams.) Some poor team typed in Hal Jordan and John Stewart separately, not realizing that typing "Green Lantern" not only netted those two, but also Kyle Rainer and Guy Gardner. At least one team (possibly two!) forgot Superman. I was surprised that the majority of teams managed to get some not-famous early 90s JLAers, like Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. Unsurprisingly, the least popular answers were Aztek, Antaeus, and Lightray.

Movies

Name the movies whose posters are featured in the montage.

Cloverfield The Pianist
Anatomy of a Murder Boogie Nights
The Rocketeer Dirty Dancing
The Dark Knight Rudy
Cold Souls She's All That
Office Space Psycho
The Sting Lolita
Goonies City Lights
The Men Who Stare At Goats Bedknobs and Broomsticks
American Beauty The Runaways
About Schmidt The Other Guys
Escape From New York The A-Team
Ocean's 11 Dr. No
Metropolis Empire Records
Labyrinth Saved!
Amadeus The Taking of Pelham 123
Forbidden Planet Roman Holiday
Akeelah and the Bee Footloose
Inglourious Basterds Dan in Real Life
Hard Candy An Inconvenient Truth
The Ugly Truth Platoon
Alien Unforgiven
Sullivan's Travels

Movies, less Googleable, produced a pretty uniform distribution, ranging up from about 3 to the low 30s out of 45. (There were 2 record perfect scores, but I think both may have been test runs by us.) The Men Who Stare at Goats and Dirty Dancing were most answered (somehow, at least one team missed Dark Knight). Unforgiven, City Lights, and Sullivan's Travels were only cracked by the perfect scores. Other surprising results: more than twice as many people got Metropolis and Forbidden Planet as Psycho and Rudy; only a third guessed Dr. No. If my guess about the two perfect test runs is right, then only one team each got Anatomy of a Murder, Akeelah and the Bee, The Runaways, and the original Taking of Pelham 123.

People did well on TV: the mode range was 45-49 out of 60. However, at least two teams missed every show, including ones we mentioned in on-air questions, like How I Met Your Mother. Few surprises in answer distribution, except maybe that a almost a third of teams forgot that Survivor was still on. If you got "Who Do You Think You Are," congrats, you were the only one.

Sports was the least-taken quiz, but featured some impressive performances. Someone got all 90, which I don't think was a test run--and it's an impressive feat even with Google. Unsurprising: current and former Red Sox were the most guessed (Johnny Damon was the most-guessed player, followed shortly thereafter by JD Drew and Jacoby Ellsbury, and only Carl Crawford and the Uptons were more guessed than Mike Cameron); this AL East bastion did badly with small-market, non-Eastern NL teams (little love for Reds, Pirates, and Padres players); and the least-guessed player was Kansas City Royal Scott Posednik. Surprising: the Minnesota contingent had more of an effect than I'd suspected, as all Twins players were answered by more than half of the players; only a third got Matt Kemp; less than half got Matt Holliday and Ryan Ludwick.

I was surprised at how many teams got 20+ drunk synonyms, though I know several used some Internet help. Most commonly guessed was "wasted." Somehow, no one got "ziced," schtumphy," or "Stocious."
