Williams Outing Club (WOC)

Founded in 1915, the Williams outing club provides many types of outdoor excursions, rental equipment and gear and runs the WOOLF program for incoming freshmen. Membership costs $10 for the year. WOC is largely run by the WOC board and Scott Lewis.

Resources

The WOC headquarters and equipment room are located in Paresky, with the office on the second floor and the equipment room on the M level downstairs.

You can check out gear with your membership card from the Equipment Room from 12 to 1, Monday through Thursday, 12 to 2 on Fridays, and 12 to 1 on Saturdays:

  • XC skis
  • backpacks, stoves, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tents, assorted other backpacking/camping gear
  • Snowshoes
  • telemark skis
  • Maps and trail information
  • Discounted ski passes, free or cheap buses to ski mountains during the winter.

The equipment room is run and managed by students; students interested in working should contact Scott Lewis at the beginning of the fall and/or spring semesters. You can also teach WOC PE classes and get paid for it. Good people, good college pay, and plenty of gear at your disposal. Occasionally through WOC you can get discounts on solid outdoors gear.

The WOC also maintains a cabin in Hopkins Forest that WOC members can use for free. It has a woodstove with firewood and kindling provided, a big window, and a second floor.
