Paresky is no longer "new"
Each student has a personal SU Box where they receive campus and postal mail. SU stands for Student Union, from the time when because the boxes were are located in the student union building (the Center). Now they are located in the buildings of the four dining halls:
* Mission Park - Building A* Greylock - Building B* Driscoll - Building C==Combination==* To open your box you need a combination which you receive at the beginning of the school year, mailed to your home. If you lose or forget that combination, you can always go to the Dodd Housecampus post office - Building Dand ask about it. It is absolutely free.
The location of ==Opening your box depends on mailbox==Opening your geographical location on campus but, contrary mailbox is a little tricky. You have to popular belief, does not depend on turn right three times before stopping at the first number of the cluster you are in. For examplecombination, then go left passing by your second number once and stopping at it the residents of Spencer, Mark Hopkinssecond time, and Bryant all have their mailboxes in Greylock, which would lead one then go right again to believe that all members of Spencer neighborhood have their mailboxes therethe third number. However, this is not trueNow, as push the residents of West have knob in and turn it to trek all the way to Dodd to get their mailleft and pull the box open.
Fortunately==History of S.U. boxes==S.U. boxes are important to Williams students, very soon they will be moved to so we preserve some history of the new time before Paresky center (most probably during Spring Break). There will be new mailboxes with new combinations but the SU box numbers will remain the same.
==Combination=Mailbox size===To open your box you need The Baxter mailboxes were about three inches wide by four inches tall -- big enough for a letter, and big enough for a combination which you receive at folded magazine or large envelope, but not big enough for the beginning majority of three-dimensional packages. Hence the school yearhappily-received package slip bearing the words PACKAGE TOO LARGE FOR BOX. This slip was so popular that the Baxter mail room sold T-shirts bearing these words. The new boxes in Paresky are significantly bigger. This allows students to receive DVDs and other smallish packages in their SU boxes, mailed but it also means that the top boxes are very high up and the bottom boxes are very close to your homethe ground; see If you lose or forget php?DiscussionID=758&page=1#Item_0 WSO discussion on this topic. ===Mailbox-opening===It used to be, in Baxter and then in the dining halls (which used the old Baxter mailboxes), that one had to first turn the dial to the left three times until reaching the first number, then to the right, and so on such that everything was "backwards" from a standard combinationlock. However, you can always go the new Paresky mailboxes turn to the right first, and thus are less confusing for first-years and ask about it. It is absolutely free.
Opening ===Locations during construction===The location of boxes during the Paresky Center construction depended on your mailbox is a little trickygeographical location on campus but, contrary to popular belief, did not depend on the cluster you were in. You have to go left to For example, the first number residents of the combinationSpencer, Mark Hopkins, then go right passing by your second number once and stopping at it the second timeBryant all had their mailboxes in Greylock, and then go left again which would lead one to the third numberbelieve that all members of Spencer neighborhood had their mailboxes there.
