The green was part of the original course in 1896, and while green speeds have quickened a bit since then, the slope of the land has not, producing many bogies and double bogies around this green. The tee ball should be played short of the green –a hill short right of the green can be used to kick the ball up onto the surface if the pin is back. Once the tee shot is in play, hopefully below the hole, the second shot must stay below the hole as well to leave an uphill putt for par. In the 1970’s, the house behind the green was occupied by a Williams student, who also happened to be the Shah of Iran’s son. Any shots long of the green in this era were subject to inspection by security and bodyguards who made sure golfers did not threaten the house in any manner!
