The Williams Record, founded in 1885, is the independent student newspaper at Williams College. The paper publishes 3,000 copies in broadsheet form once a week, on Wednesdays, and covers news and events relevant to campus. Space is also provided for letters to the editor and op-eds written by members of the Williams community. Though the Record is listed alongside other student organizations, it receives no funding from the administration or College Council. Publication is funded through advertising, subscriptions and online contributions. Publication has traditionally been funded through advertising, subscriptions and online contributions; in 2010, however, as the newspaper struggled with structural deficits, [[College Council]] granted the Record a subsidy funded by an increase in the Student Activities Tax.
