This page does not adequately differentiate between what you don't need Novell for and what you do. As an example of what you would use Novell for, it mentions iTunes music sharing which is purely tcp/ip based and doesn't need Novell at all. my bad...just thought i'd get the ball rolling and let other people smooth out the technicalities.  i asked around about iTunes and whether it required NetWare and people seemed to think it probably did.
